Provision of business development advice to a leading African law firm in relation to market and sector research in 8 African countries, followed by a detailed analysis of potential clients and outreach

In-House Department of JSE-listed FMCG Company

Drafting of an Executive Memo for the Executive: Legal and Group Company Secretary of a leading South African FMCG company. The report focused on the analysis of the client's current legal, compliance and group secretarial capabilities and capacities in the context of the company's business model.

Identification of priority actions to enhance the governance, strategic alignment and operational efficiency of the current team and proposed a new organisational structure, including a new allocation of responsibilities and a full revision of the current job profiles

Lobbying and Advocacy Platform

Supporting the establishment of the EU Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Southern Africa as the lobbying and advocacy platform for European business interests in Southern Africa. Advice and support over a period of 18 months included but was not limited to:

  • the definition of service and policy focus areas, as well as corporate member relations (executives of EU multinationals in South Africa);

  • the development of communication channels (social media, website, newsletters); and

  • the establishment of government relations, stakeholder and media communications (external role: senior advisor)

Conducting a one-day strategy workshop for a leading legal information service provider covering the status quo of the legal market in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Africa, latest trends in legal procurement and enabling technologies in private practice and in-house legal. 


Solo Practitioner

Developing a go-to-market campaign for a newly-established small law firm specialising in the construction and engineering sector as a lawyer business coach. In addition, design and production of a unique, client-centric marketing brochure for digital and offline distribution (logo and Corporate Identity guide already existed) within 5 working days.  

Legal Tech Start-up

Assistance of a start-up in the legal tech sector, whose products visualise legal and regulatory texts resulting in highly efficient, multi-dimensional search processes. Support of the start-up in relation to the development of its business model, funding initiatives and corresponding business development and marketing processes.

Alternative Legal Service Provider

Preparing and moderating a full-day strategy workshop for an international Alternative Legal Services Provider (ALSP). Objectives were to critically review and discuss the current Vision and Mission statements, corporate objectives, service portfolio management (incl. USPs), corresponding communication and sales channels and a prioritised action plan.

Global Law Firm

Preparation and facilitation of a one-day strategy workshop for the firm's Africa practice including an introductory presentation on the status quo of the legal sector in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Africa. 

Large South African law Firm

Reorganisation and establishment of a business development, marketing and communications department including the implementation sub-team structures, establishment of a key account management and research function, implementation of a new Corporate Social Investment strategy, and the recruitment of new talent (headcount grew from 11 to 21) for a leading South African law firm (role: department head, member of the Executive Committee)

Restructuring of a Business Development, Marketing and Communications department for the 5 German offices of an international law firm (role: department head). In addition, implementation of a new client and experience management system based on Elite 3E for all German offices of a multinational law firm (project lead)
